Wii U comes in third with 66,000 units sold in February

Wii U moved 66,000 units in the US last month according to NPD data released in a Macquarie Capital analyst note. According to the note, the system came in last place in sales, with Xbox 360 moving 302,000 units and PS3 263,000 units. The firm felt Wii U showed well with 45% growth month-over-month, with the Deluxe model showing an 70% increase in consumer demand. Thanks GI International.

Project Diva F, Soul Sacrifice and Vita dominate Media Create charts

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F and Soul Sacrifice took the top spots in the Media Create charts for the period of March 4-10, with the former moving 110,229 units on PS3 and Comcept’s debut moving 92,396 units on Vita. The handheld also took the top spot on the hardware charts, thanks to last month’s price drop. While sales were only up 1,038 units over the week prior, it still moved 63,581 units which is considerably better than its recent sales history.

Oculus Rift: John Carmack discusses latency problems

In a lengthy and involved blog post, legendary engineer John Carmack has gone into detail on the problems he and the Oculus Rift team face trying to achieve the virtual reality dream. The headset-tech requires a maximum latency of about 20 milliseconds to feel like genuine head movement, Carmack said, but current systems only achieve average response times of 100 milliseconds. Carmack’s discussion of how he’s tackling this issue is technical but fascinating. Valve’s Michael Abrash has shared similar thoughts in the past.

Nvidia announces its GeForce GTX Titan Kepler card

Nvidia has revealed its GeForce GTX Titan graphics card featuring Kepler architecture. The firm claims the card features “advanced thermal and acoustic characteristics,” which will support the “new wave of small form-factor gaming PCs.” The reveal comes after AMD said its “Sea Islands” card was still not ready for prime time. However, don’t expect the new card to be cheap: Titan will run you $999/£827 with its 2,668 GPU cores, output of “4.5 Teraflops of single precision and 1.3 Teraflops of double precision processing power. Analyst expects Sony to cut the price of PS3 next week

Industry analyst Michael Pachter expects Sony to announce a price-cut for PS3 next week along with the announcement of a new console. According to Pachter, the a price-cut should go into effect on “February 21st,” and he expects it to hit somewhere around the $199 mark. He also expects Microsoft to counter the reduction with one of its own by E3. next week can’t get here soon enough, right? Thanks, GI International.

Sony releases short retrospective video starring original PlayStation

Sony has released a short retrospective video which provides a look at the original PlayStation. It chronicles the console’s launch as well as that of the DualShock Controller.
