Kerbal Space Program updates will be free for those who own the game

KSP

Updates and expansions for Kerbal Space Program, which part of the first wave of paid-Alphas allowed on Steam, will be free to customers who own the game and those those who buy it before the end of the month. The announcement was made by Squad after early adopters, who were promised free updates, became upset over having to pay extra for future expansions containing “major game-changing sets of features.” The game follows the Minecraft business model, meaning the price of the core game increases as development continues. Thanks, PC Gamer.

SimCity releases free but ad-supported DLC

20130403_simcity_nissan

If you can stomach looking at the word “Nissan” from time to time, head over to Origin to grab the Leaf Station, a free piece of DLC bearing the car manufacturer’s brand. The charging station gives a one-time boost to business happiness in surrounding areas, boosts happiness for each sim that uses it, requires no water, power or workers, and produces no waste or pollution. The DLC will be available for just six months.

Fantasy Life trademark filed in the US

20130403_fantasy_life

A western release of Level-5 and Brownie Brown’s unusual sim Fantasy Life seems more and more likely. In addition to a European trademark filed last month, Siliconera reports the developer has moved to secure a US one. Unfortunately, there’ve been no rumblings from any of the usual publishers, but perhaps a 3DS eShop release is possible. Fantasy Life released in Japan in December and sold out almost immediately; Level-5 is already planning sequels.

Pixelry Champions Kickstarter looks completely adorable

20130322_pixelry_champions

Ha ha, look at this Kickstarter; it’s called Pixelry Champions, and it’s about jousting. The pixellated adventure has players kitting out their own little knight’s home; crafting unique armour sets; serving as a guard; drinking at the pub; shopping; and hopefully eventually marrying princess Arianna Annabelle di Grandigund Hyacinthe. It’s an expanded commercial release of an already pretty delicious project, and wants just £23,000 for a November PC release, with Android, iOS, Linux and Mac ports in the offing.

MechWarrior Online March update brings new map, controls and Jagermech

20130320_mechwarrior_online

Piranha Games’ latest content update for free-to-play MMO MechWarrior Online is hefty indeed. The star billing is shared by the new Tourmaline Desert and Jagermech, but a new Testing Grounds area has been added, too, allowing you to check out new gear and features before wandering into battle. You may want to take advantage of this, as Piranha has added a bunch of optional control tweaks, such as a gas pedal, a torso to legs centre, and better joystick support. On top of that, there’s a pile of consumables and cosmetic items, and a leaderboard challenge.
