Hazama tells the story of Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy in latest Iwata Asks
Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy, the debut title from producer Ichiro Hazama, was originally designed for release on DS but due to hardware limitations, the game’s production was held back. Speaking in the the latest edition of Iwata Asks, Hazama said the idea for the title came after he finished work on the Final Fantasy movie Advent Children, and with the release of 3DS, a handheld with the storage capacity and power was finally available to bring his ideas to fruition. Thus he went to Indies Zero to finalize his plans for the game, and after getting the all-clear from Tetsuya Nomura, work on the game started that very day. In order to get fans involved, Hazama said Square sent out fan surveys sent, and the 70 songs contained in the game are a direct result of said surveys. The more you know, etcetera. The rhythm-action game, which contains four-player co-op, will land on 3DS February 16. A western release has yet to be confirmed.

Quick quotes: Continued success of dance genre “took us by surprise,” says Ubisoft
“Initially, the level of success took us by surprise, yes. We didn’t expect it to become the phenomenon it did. However, we did anticipate that Just Dance 3 would be bigger than Just Dance 2, because we saw how the brand was growing and we didn’t see any slowdown. The game continues to attract more and more people, no matter what kind of games they say they typically like to play. That growing audience helped us sell more than 25 million copies of the Just Dance franchise and has helped keep Just Dance 3 in the Top Five in sales since its launch.” – Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, speaking to MCV on the continued success of the dance genre, as well as worries of it fizzling out.

Theatrhythm to have paid DLC through “Nintendo Network”
Some leaked boxart for Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy shows that the game will contain paid download content, as well as support something called “Nintendo Network”. The dummy art, which first popped up on NeoGAF, shows that the game, as promised, will have DLC released for it but it looks like it will cost you according to the fine print. The game launches on 3DS in Japan on February 16, which would make it the first game to have paid DLC on the system. Likely, Nintendo will announce something pertaining to “Nintendo Network” sometime between now and then, still, we’ll send a mail. Thanks, Andriasang.

Ubisoft announces huge Just Dance 3 stats
Just Dance 3 isn’t all that popular in hardcore gaming circles so you’ll be excused for not noticing it before, but you should know that the game is incredibly popular. Two days ago it was announced that even though it launched over two months ago, Just Dance 3 for Wii was still the best selling single-platform game in the UK. Which beat out all the individual platforms of Skyrim, though not all of Skyrim’s sales together.
Just how popular is it? Ubisoft announced today that Just Dance 3 has 8.4 million players. Which, they’d like us to know, is equivalent to 84 bonaroo festivals. They added that on a given day about 17 years of Just Dance 3 is played.
