After Season 3 ends, League of Legends will no longer ‘clamp’ League Point gains for players below Diamond tier, so that everyone advances through the ranks a little bit faster and combat a trend of players reaching a tier’s fifth division, burn out of low LP returns and become “increasingly toxic”.

Blizzard has released the first artwork for its upcoming MOBA Heroes of the Storm and in doing so, revealed some of the heroes which will probably feature. In no particular order the characters featured are: Anub’arak, Illidan, Lady Sylvanas Windrunner, the Witch Doctor from Diablo, Chen Stormstout, Diablo himself, Noba, The Lich King and Starcraft’s own Tychus Findlay. Nival’s upcoming MOBA Prime World, in beta now across North America and Europe, including its native Russia, is receiving some overhauls of its characters in some regions so as to avoid being yet another action game where your only lady character options are small, lithe and scantily clad.

Now titled Awesomenauts: Assemble, the PlayStation 4 revision of the sidescrolling MOBA is aiming for a launch day release alongside the console on November 15. Priced at $10, at parity with the Steam version, Awesomenauts: Assemble will eventually receive the Starstorm expansion that was Kickstarted recently on PC. On the PC, Awesomenauts updated today to feature private lobbies and Team Deathmatch.

Riot has begun League of Legend’s Halloween themed event The Harrowing, which introduces Mystery Skin Gifting among friends and turns your sight wards into spooky things like Tombstones and Evil Trees and other such kitsch symbols. In addition, there are two new hero skins on sale, a police offeicer version of Vi and a spooky version of Zyra, for about $8 each.

Only a week after Blizzard revealed Heroes of the Storm to be the new name of its contender to the MOBA throne (previously titled Blizzard DOTA and Blizzard All-Stars) a Finnish board game designer whose game “Myrskyn sankarit” translates to “Heroes of the Storm” has suggested Blizzard might have to change the game’s name one more time. Undoubtedly I will be lynched for this, but I don’t really know anything about Dota 2. But I’m told that the long list of changes made in the new 6.79 gameplay update are rather significant, and will result in some big changes. Rather than pretend to know what I’m talking about, I’ll just link to a forum post by a Valve developer which appears to be a preliminary list of the changes you can expect.

Blizzard has published the full schedule for BlizzCon 2013 on Battle.net. The two day event is highlighted by events such as a Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls preview and Heroes of the Storm overview on Friday, and a Warcraft movie presentation on Saturday featuring director Duncan Jones. If you can’t make it to Anaheim, or didn’t get tickets, consider a virtual pass, which comes with in-game goodies as well as access to livestreams of events and tournaments.

Today’s something of an historic occasion; Zynga has released its first game on Steam. Solstice Arena is a free-to-play MOBA also available for iDevice, developed by A Bit Lucky, which Zynga acquired last year. It was nominated for a Unity Award for Best Gameplay and Community Choice this year. A Zynga game! On Steam! Madness, chaos, cats lying down with dogs, et cetera.

Major League Gaming has published the broadcast schedule for its Fall Invitational event, which runs Friday and Saturday this week. The Dota 2 tournament will seed into the International Competition at the MLG Championship in Columbus in November, while in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Complexity will defend its title from all comers. Both competitions feature four teams and a grand prize of $15,000. Tune in on MLG.tv; the whole event will be streamed for free. Those who attend in person can purchase VIP passes. Heroes of Newerth has bagged Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson for a new announcer pack. Presumably if you play the game with his pipes over the top, you’ll be offered a spot in the Avengers at the end.
