Gaikai executive jumps ship for Oculus Rift

First trailer for Hawken web series released
A trailer for the Hawken webs series, directed by Gears of War art director Jeremiah O’Flaherty, has been posted below. Produced by DJ2 Entertainment and to be released by Warner, the web series stars Edi Gathegi, Gonzalo Menendez, Dameon Clark, and Hannah Hall and is set for release in 2013. Sony may bring Gaikai to non-gaming products
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal. SCE head Andrew House said Sony’s acquisition of Gaikai will empower a streaming games service running on gaming platforms, but that other Sony products are “absolutely within the frame” of the company’s plans. On a related note, House confirmed Sony expects Gaikai to continue operating as normal, meaning a deal with rival TV manufacturer Samsung is unlikely to be scuttled.

Gaikai shown running on Chrome Native Client at Google I/O 2012
During Google I/O 2012 this week, Gaikai presented a look at the service using Google’s Native Client (NaCL) which will allow games to start streaming without the need for downloading or updating Java. In fact, it won’t require any downloads at all or permissions from Java – something Gaikai CEO David Perry mentioned he was previously trying to eliminate. Using NaCL, Gaikai can run at 60fps, and to show how well it runs, the firm demoed Bulletstorm – posted below – running on a Samsung Chromebox during its stage demonstration. No date on when we can expect the full version for Chrome to release, but it’s apparently coming “soon.” Thanks, Polygon.
