Windows Blue codename dumped for Windows 8.1, will be a free update

windows8-logo

For those who have switched their OS over to Windows 8, Microsoft announced today during the JP Morgan’s Technology, Media, & Telcom Conference that Windows Blue will be a free update, and it has been officially dubbed Windows 8.1. There still isn’t an exact release date for it, and details on its contents are still scarce, but CMO and CFO Tami Reller said it will be free and a public preview is slated for June 26 during Microsoft’s Build conference. Surely there is a gaming update of sorts in it, but if not, some of you play games on PCs running W8, so hopefully this is good news. Thanks, Engadget.

Sony Japan countdown site is rather odd, ends on Thursday

sony japan countdown

Sony Japan has a strange countdown site with a streaming look at a room with a bunch of monitors on it. In the URL, the user name is panopticon, which is a type of circular prison in which a watchman can observe all of the inmates housed. The design makes it so the inmates don’t know whether they are being watched or not. Whether that has anything to do with the countdown is beyond me.Any ideas? At any rate, it looks to be set for a reveal on Thursday, May 16. Thanks, KyleB.
