Japanese Charts – Tales of the Heroes, Harvest Moon 3DS Top the Charts
Media Create has released its weekly retail chart and Namco’s Tales of the Heroes Twin Brave topped it for PSP with 85,309 units sold. 3DS sale fell close to 20,000 units over the prior week, but it still manged to move 76,322 units.

Media Create: Vita 3G beat WiFi at Japanese launch
More 3G units of PlayStation Vita were sold at the Japanese launch of the handheld back in December against WiFi models, with sales between the two since getting even.

Iwata dismisses Nikkei report on Twitter, calls it “gossip”
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has taken to Twitter to address “gossip” contained in a Nikkei article which outed a supposed Seaman title and the fact Iwata thinks the firm will eventually “collapse” if things continue the way they are at the firm. Apparently, none of this was true.

Microsoft celebrating Xbox’s 10th Anniversary in Japan
Microsoft is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Xbox’s release in Japan with contests and and free games. Those who tweet their memories of Xbox or Xbox 360 games to Xbox Japan have a chance to win a one night stay at the Hilton Tokyo Bay in Odaiba. Five winners will be chosen, and the room will be fitted with Kinect sensors so fold can play games during their stay. The firm is also handing out 300,000 Xbox Live Arcade titles on a “first come first served basis” with titles such as Lode Runner, Snoopy Flying Ace and The Maw up for grabs. Information on how to participate is available on Andriasang.
The original Xbox was released in Japan on February 22, 2002.

Japanese charts – Suikoden and Gravity Daze tops for Sony portables
Suikoden and Gravity Daze were big sellers in Japan for the week ending February 12, according to the latest Media Create figures, and while the former provided PSP with a slight boost in sales over the week prior, the later didn’t help Vita sell any extra systems.

THQ Japan shutting down February 29
THQ has announced its to shutter its branch in Japan on February 29. According to the report on Impress Watch, all staff will exit the firm as well and the closure is due to the recent financial issues surrounding its US parent. The firm will enter in negotiations with other manufacturers and publishing arms to release games in the region. Before opening its own arm in the country three years ago, the firm looked to companies such as Spike for licensing games in the region. Support for users of existing titles and the official site has yet to be determined. With respect to Asia Pacific, THQ’s Australian and Shanghai China offices are also to be scaled back. Square’s Rebellion Overdrive is a new episode for GREE’s Knights of the Crystals
Siliconera has gotten to the bottom of a Square trademark it uncovered this morning called Rebellion Overdrive, and turns out its a new episode for the Japanese, GREE social game, Knights of the Crystals. The North American version on Facebook ends on February 29. So much for hoping it was one of Square’s Unreal Engine 3 games.

Resident Evil: Revelations topped Media Create’s software charts this week, after debuting in second place to Armored Core V last week. On the hardware side of things, Vita’s rebound the week prior was short-lived, as sales of the handheld fell 1,801 units week-over-week.
