WB Games will expand its Montreal studio, adding 100 positions over the next five years. The expansion is part of a deal with the Quebec government which invested $63 million in grant money and incentives into the Batman: Arkham Origins studio. This is to help support the local development scene, and the new positions are expected to pay approximately $70,000 annually to employees. At present, the studio has around 325 permanent employees. Earlier this week, Ubisoft was a recipient of a $9.9 million grant by the government which it will use to expand it Montreal studio by 500 jobs. Thanks, GI International.

Kickstarter will soon be made available to developers in Canada. The site will go live later this summer, and potential developers can keep track of its progress by signing up here. The move comes a few months after the crowdfunding site opened up to UK developers, and the firm has said it is “working hard to open up to creators in even more countries soon.” Thanks, Develop.

A Montreal chapter for Women in Games International has been announced, and the chapter will launch during the International Game Developers Association summer event tonight, June 18. “As a vibrant hub of game development, we think it’s important that Montreal has a local WIGI chapter,” said co-founder Sharon Price. “There has been increased awareness around women who work in games, and how women are portrayed in games.
