Top of the league in mobile footie games for a while now, New Star Soccer is finally receiving an update, and it’s a big one. New Star Soccer 1.5 remodels the career structure, which asks players to consider whether they should retire in their prime or keep playing on with increasingly deteriorating skills. It also adds significant gameplay changes to bring the action much closer to the real thing.

Amanita Design’s Machinarium will now feet neatly inside your pocket, as the rather well-liked adventure game is now available on iPhone. It’s been available on iPad for a little while, and the game is now a Universal App, so if you already have it on your tablet, you can download the game to your iPhone at no additional cost.

Namco Bandai’s free-to-play card battler experiment is proving quite popular; the publisher has announced that Tekken Card Tournament has passed 5 million downloads. The fighter-themed mobile, tablet and browser title is offering 40% off digital card boosters for a limited time to celebrate the milestone. Additionally, it’s been updated with four new languages and verious fixes and optimisations. A major update with new characters and game modes is coming soon but is yet to be detailed.

A title update for the iOS version of XCOM: Enemy Unknown has rectified a grievous oversight in the original release, by allowing you to play multiplayer matches. You can now challenge your friends to battles, just as in the PC and console versions, but if you only have limited time you can send your turn, wander off, and resume at a later time. Hooray! The update also adds leaderboards, new achievements, and various iOS 7 optimisations. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is on sale for $10 through October 13; it normally goes for $20, so act fast.

According to anonymous sources speaking to AllThingsD, a new iPad reveal is just weeks away. The site’s sources said Apple will hold one of its famous media events on October 22, showing off the fifth generation iPad; the new models are believed to be slimmer and lighter with a better camera, and to utilise Apple’s 64-bit A7 chip. An iPad Mini with the same chip and a retina display will also be revealed, apparently, along with a new Mac Pro model.
