Rovio has acquired the rights to the Casey’s Contraptions IP from Snappy Touch and Mystery Coconut, and the firm will release a new game in the series this summer. The original iPad title has been removed from the App Store. The new physics-based puzzler will be the first title from the developer that’s not Angry Birds-centric, and upon release the game will initially launch on iOS and Android before extending to other platforms. LostWinds2: Winter of the Melodias has released on the App Store for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. It includes the ability to switch between summer and winter at will, new wind powers, new environments and characters, and graphical tweaking specifically for iOS devices. Atari has announced its library of mobile games has exceeding 10 million downloads across iOS and Android smartphone and tablet devices in less than a year. The milestone comes on the 40th anniversary of Atari and Pong, for which a $100,000 Pong Indie Developer Challenge contest is currently under way. Consisting of cash prizes and publishing agreements for the top 10 finalists, developers tasked with reimagining Pong for iOS devices. The top 20 semi-finalists were recently announced on May 1 and selected from nearly 90 total submissions, all moving on to compete for a spot on the finalist rankings for June 19th.

Gamasutra has complied the week’s top-grossing iPhone and iPad apps and Kabam’s Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North came out tops on iPhone with Zynga Poker coming in second. Slotomania HD topped iPad offerings while Battle for the North came in second place. Full thing is below.

Rovio announced in its latest financial report that its Angry Birds franchise has been downloaded 1 billion times.

Google has told TechCrunch that its app store, Google Play, passed the 15 billion download mark “a few weeks ago.” The last time the firm mentioned how many downloads the store had received was during its Q4 2011 earnings in January when the number stood at 11 billion. In comparison, Apple’s App Store hit 15 billion downloads in July 2011, and as of March 2012 the figure was 25 billion downloads. According to TechCrunch’s figures, Google Play is seeing around 1 billion downloads a month where as Apple sees around 1.25 billion. Google currently has 500,000 apps available while Apple has 600,000 available.

For a limited time you can grab the original Infinity Blade for just 99 cents. The RPG was the first proper game to show off how well the Unreal Engine runs on iDevice, and although surpassed by its sequel, is still one of the finest games for your smartphone. Especially for a buck; it normally goes for around $6 depending on territory.

Obsidian’s classic RPG Neverwinter Nights 2 is on sale on the Mac App Store for 99 cents. That’s a very small amount of money for a highly rated RPG you can play on the office machines. You can grab it here. Neverwinter Nights 2 is the 2006 sequel to the BioWare original, and famously shipped with an extraordinary number of bugs. That’s all been patched to hell and back by now of course, and the game saw several expansions and eventual popularity.

A PC demo of Angry Birds Space is now available through GamersHell if you would like to get the game a try before you buy it. It’s out today for iOS, Android and PC.
