GameStop posts quarterly decline, shrugs off Microsoft’s evasive stance on used games

GameStop has reported its quarterly results for the period ending May 4, with total revenues down 6.8% year-over-year to $1.87 billion, noting declines in both hardware sales and new software. Profits came in at $54.6 million, down 25% year-over-year.

Nvidia releases GTX 780 for £549 and GeForce Experience software

Nvidia has released its GTX 780 graphics card, and while it will run you £549, the thing clocks in at 863 Mhz and can be boosted to 900 Mhz. It also contains 3GB of DDR5 with a memory speed of 6Gbps. MCV says it also has “TDP of 250W and outputs via 2xDL-DVI slots, 1xHDMI and 1xDisplayport.” Whatever all that means. Just tell me if it makes things shiny and I’ll be pleased. Furthermore, the firm also launched its GeForce Experience software which will collects 20 minutes of game footage as you play, as well as analyzes your system to automatically choose the optimum settings configuration for whatever game you’re playing. Nifty.

Skyward Collapse now available for Mac and PC

Skyward Collapse, the turn-based 4X god-sim from Arcen Games, is out today on Mac and PC, and the developer sent over some screenshots and a new trailer for it. The game can be picked up through the official website, Steam, and other distributors. Brenna has been playing the preview build, and as soon as she returns from her much needed vacation, she’ll have some detailed impressions. Earlier today she told me it’s “sort of like playing chess against yourself, only you’re always a total bastard”. Awesome.

Mirror’s Edge 2 listing pops up on Amazon Germany

Another day, another hope that Mirror’s Edge 2 will be released sooner rather than later. Today, a listing popped up for it on Amazon Germany. AGB has posted a screengrab of the placeholder listing just in case it vanishes. ngmoco Sweden’s Ben Cousins, previously GM of EA’s Easy Studio said last year he’d heard the game was in the works at DICE. This was around the time that EA Games vice-president Patrick Soderlund said DICE was currently working on non-Battlefield titles. E3? Who knows. Keep hope alive.

Nintendo has announced its E3-centric Nintendo Direct presentation will air on June 11. It will air at 7am PDT/10am EDT and can be watched here. The firm will be discussing updates about future Wii U games such as the new Smash Bros., 3D Mario game, Mario Kart and other Wii U titles, according to the last Nintendo Direct which aired on May 18. Square Enix has announced it will broadcast its E3 presentations live. Dubbed “Square Enix Presents,” the firm will reveal more details on the program’s schedule, games and personalities who will be featured in the coming weeks leading up to E3 in June. The firm says the presentation will “offer a diverse and user-friendly range of programming aimed at sharing unique perspectives with Square Enix’s global audience.” Viewers can expect coverage of all key titles in Square Enix’s 2013 lineup, and the event can be watched through here on YouTube throughout E3′s duration June 11-13.

Square Enix’s US president and CEO Mike Fischer has left the company, according to a report on Polygon. Fischer joined the company in 2010, and according to the report, he is now vice president of digital video and music at Amazon Japan. Prior to his stint at Square, Fischer worked for Microsoft, SEGA and Namco Bandai. He told Polygon he left Square on good terms. The firm’s president Yoichi Wada left earlier this year.

Super Stardust spiritual successor in development for PS4

Housemarque has announced a spiritual successor to Super Stardust is in development for PS4. The firm said the console enables it to “do things that wouldn’t be possible otherwise.” According to a post on the studio’s official website, the architecture of PS4 will allow the developers “to create incredible visuals with direct impact on the way the new game feels.” The firm is also working on another unannounced project for PS4.
