This Gwent trailer for the new Nilfgaard faction makes it all seem a lot more dramatic than we remember

Nilfgaard has come to answer the call. The call ... to play cards.

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is pretty good, and as of today it boasts a new faction - Nilfgaard, the southern empire, masters of spies and treachery.

CD Projekt RED produced a new trailer to mark the occasion, and also to promote the game in general as Gwent: The Witcher Card Game marches towards open beta. In typical CDPR style, it's extremely dramatic.

Look, I'm a sucker for the Witcher soundtrack, emphatic narration, and language like "answer the call", so this sort of trailer is perfectly tailored to give me goosebumps and extract my wallet even when I've tucked it into the very secure pocket in my skinniest jeans. But I've played Gwent: the Witcher Card Game and I assure you: it is a card game. Do not be fooled.

You should try it though, because it is fun in a slightly more restrained way than the trailer suggests, and it's full of beautiful sound effects and animations that make pulling off a good combo feel deeply satisfying. We're giving away Gwent: the Witcher Card Game beta keys if you're keen to get in ahead of the open beta pack, and we've also got a little guide to resources, crafting, and building a Gwent: The Witcher Card Game desk without spending shitloads of money.

Anyway, Nilfgaard is now available in Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. That's nice, isn't it. It's on PC and Xbox One, with a PS4 version undated but inbound.
