Game Mode is one of the new features coming to Windows 10 with the Creators Update. The update is being rolled out this week to Insider Programme members, and will be released for everyone else later.

Microsoft previously talked briefly about Game Mode, saying it's designed to increase performance when playing games on PC. It should work with Win32 games as well as UWP ones, though the latter is what the update will focus on.

In the video above, the company shows a demo of how the feature is turned on, and explains that the goal of it is to increase both peak frame-rate as well as average frame-rate. The mode actually works in a similar way to how Xbox One handles running games.

What this does is prioritise CPU and GPU resources, dedicating as much as possible to the game. Some games will automatically enable the mode, while others may not work with it out of the gate.
