Switch pre-orders kick off Friday morning at Nintendo of America's flagship New York store

Switch is so close you can almost taste it. Have you been saving your pennies?

Nintendo Switch pre-orders officially open Friday morning.

Unfortunately we don't have confirmation that you'll be able to pre-order through your favourite retailer from anywhere in the world; at this stage, only Nintendo of America's flagship New York store has confirmed it will be accepting cold hard cash for Switch pre-orders.

Should you be within range of the New York Nintendo Store, you can probably expect some pretty hellish queues. The tills open at 9:00am ET, and Switch pre-orders are only on offer "while supplies last".

Goodness knows how much Switch stock Nintendo has allocated for New York, so expect a bit of a feeding frenzy from Nintendo's admirably fervent fanbase.

We don't yet know how much the Switch will cost, what games it will front at launch or even the extent of its features and capabilities, but Nintendo will reveal all tomorrow.

The Switch will be on show to press and industry partners at events this week, and will even go public in the US starting from January 15, where it kicks off a national tour in New York.
