For Honor maps and mode DLC will be free, but nobody's said anything about new heroes yet

For Honor is well positioned to follow Rainbow Six Siege's lead.

For Honor will be supported post-launch with new maps and gameplay modes - all of which will be free to all owners of the game.

"We don't want to split the community," game director Damien Kieken told Eurogamer.

"So everything that's matchmade [including] new modes and new maps, will be given for free to the players. We'll also have other free content. We are a big team supporting the game after launch."

Players will be able to throw money at For Honor if they'd rather not grind for the in-game currency, Steel, needed to unlock content in the game's store. It's not clear what you can purchase in this store, but we're betting new playable heroes will feature. That's what Ubisoft did with Rainbow Six Siege, and it seems pretty sensible, given how well the shooter is doing.

For Honor launches in February on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with a closed beta in January, which is why Ubisoft has finally started talking more about. We recently learned that it's an always-online title and got a stack of new videos showing off the story campaign and three unit classes.

If you've missed all this somehow, For Honor is a three-faction action game with a number of multiplayer modes. It posits a war between samurai, vikings and knights, although in many modes teams can mix and match units from all three factions freely.
