Dragon Quest 8 is back, and better than ever.

Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King is still over a month away but here's a look at how it runs on 3DS anyway.

As Arekkz explains in the video above, the original PS2 release of Dragon Quest 8 was the first in the series to release in the UK, and incidentally the first to be localised original Japanese title rather than the Dragon Warrior moniker, under which earlier games were released in North America.

The 3DS version of Dragon Quest 8 has quick save, speed mode, photo mode and two new party members, making it the most convenient way to experience the classic RPG.

Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King releases in January.

I have many fond memories of playing this on PS2 with my brothers, although looking back on it I wonder if my tolerance for old-school JRPGs has slipped a bit since then.
