UK retailer now accepting Nintendo Switch pre-orders at £199, but it's probably best to hold off till January

Nintendo Switch pre-orders have opened - sort of.

One UK retailer has opened pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch.

GameSeek has listed the console at £198.50 including free shipping, making it one of the first to slap a price tag on Switch without a big "placeholder" or "TBC" label.

This isn't the first time this has happened, but usually the retailer in question quickly yanks the Switch listing and we have to rely on screen captures. The fact that the listing is still up makes me feel like this one is speculative - the retailer's best guess for a competitive price, rather than based on intel received from Nintendo - and although GameSeek apparently guarantees the price won't increase, one comment on the page suggests it's currently refunding these pre-orders.

The price does seem sensible, though, and a recent report suggested the Switch will retail at £200, with a premium version available at £250. As Eurogamer argues, it'd be silly to jump on this pre-ordewr and potentially do yourself out of a better version of the Switch with decent storage, for example.

You do you, of course, but personally I never put money down for a console anywhere until the platform holder rolls out official pricing and launch details. Nintendo Switch launch information is coming in January, so there's not long to wait.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any promise on this site that your pre-order will guarantee you launch day Switch stock. It'd be terrible to pay for your console months in advance and not get it for days after all your mates.
