Destiny: Rise of Iron players are hot on the heels of potential secrets right now

Have Destiny: Rise of Iron players finally started on the trail of something like the Black Spindle quest from The Taken King?

Destiny: Rise of Iron has been picked pretty clean, with players thoroughly sorting out even elaborate treasure hunts like the Outbreak Prime Exotic quest.

But we're expecting more out of Bungie; in addition to the Exotic quests, we're looking for limited-time challenges with neat rewards, like the Black Spindle in The Taken King. Now that it's been a few weeks and the Destiny hardcore have chewed through the rest of Rise of Iron, it looks like we might now be seeing new secrets come to light.

Last Exit code

Bungie's Derek Carroll dropped a hint during a recent livestream that there was some sort of code hidden in Last Exit, one of the new PvP maps added with Destiny: Rise of Iron. He also tweeted out a mysterious image file.

Over on the Destiny subreddit, community members have tracked down what may be fragments of this code, along with multiple references to colours. Meanwhile, the Raid Secrets subreddit team is playing around with panels that light up, putting together Grimoire entries and environmental clues, and wondering if the answer might not be in another map. There's a lot of cryptography talk going on.

Amazing scenes. As Redditor serpentofsheol commented: "Can't wait until someone smart figures this all out so I can get a new weapon from their success! In the mean time I'll be eating hotdog".

The Wretched Eye smoke

Elsewhere, the fine Guardians of the Destiny subreddit are also poking away at a strange atmospheric effect found in the Plaguelands, but only during The Wretched Eye strike - you can't get there on patrol. Explore the Hive hatchery where you need to disable a stack of SIVA nodes and you'll find patches of green smoke which regularly throw up Hive runes.

Hive Smoke Wretched Eye Strike #1

What makes this especially interesting is that one of the clues leading to the discovery of the Black Spindle questline in Destiny: The Taken King was a runestone with hints regarding the quest written in Hive text.

Some Destiny players pretty hopeful this might point to a weapon similar to the Ogre eye rifle used by the strike's boss, but the Raid Secrets crew are less convinced, suggesting the smoke area are just traps. After all, you see Hive runes all over the place.

So there we go: one Bungie-initiated code breaking hunt, and one possibly over-excited investigation. Good luck with it, Guardians! You just let me know when I should log into Destiny: Rise of Iron to grab my new boomstick, okay?
