Destiny: Rise of Iron - let's talk about SIVA, the self-replicating tech plague at the heart of the Plaguelands

Destiny: Rise of Iron introduces some mysterious new elements to Patrol mode in the Cosmodrome.

Destiny: Rise of Iron contains a new area to explore, but it also re-jigs the Cosmodrome we've come to know so well. Not only is Old Russia experiencing a colder winter, it's also in the grips of SIVA, the self-replicating technological plague which differentiates new faction the Splicers from their Fallen brethren.

In the video above, Destiny expert Arekkz takes a look at two SIVA-related items spotted during a recent Bungie livestream of Patrol mode in the Cosmodrome.

The first one is a SIVA icon on a Patrol mission beacon. There's no indication what form this mission might take, but if it's similar to the Taken patrols in Destiny: The Taken King, you'll need to visit a specific location to clear out an infestation of Splicers - probably with a mini-boss of some kind.

The other item on show is something called a Dormant SIVA Clusters - a Legendary item collected during the Patrol. While Arekkz speculates this might be some sort of crafting item or related to an Exotic weapon quest of some kind, I wonder if it might not be a new collectible introduced with Destiny: Rise of Iron, like the Calcified Fragments in Destiny: The Taken King.

Destiny: Rise of Iron launches in September, and while Bungie has given us an indication of what sort of content to expect, it has yet to show us the Plaguelands, detail the Light cap increase, or discuss new gear. Stay tuned over the next few months for more information, hopefully.

Is anybody else just like fervently hoping SIVA turns out to be related to the Vex somehow? I love those creepy machines.
