New World of Warcraft: Legion short catches up with Khadgar and Medivh

World of Warcraft: Legion presents some of our old favourites with horrors they thought they'd left behind.

World of Warcraft: Legion kicks off a new chapter in the MMORPG's story, which can be a bit daunting for newcomers and lapsed players. Who are all these people? What's happening? Why do we care?

Blizzard's solution is a series of short animations called Harbingers. Watching the series will prime you to dive right in with a fair idea of the stakes and key personalities in play when World of Warcraft: Legion launches in late August.

Having seen two episodes now (the first one was about Gul'dan), I've noticed that we seem to be focused on characters and plot points also featured in the recent Warcraft movie. I don't know if this is just because WoW: Legion sort of cycles back to those themes and characters from the early Warcraft lore, or if this is a bridge for players who've decided to get on board after seeing the movie. The Warcraft movie kind of bombed outside China so I don't know how successful a marketing strategy that would be, but from an individual perspective the shorts are great at linking the movie to what's happening now.

You know, I tuned out after Warcraft 3 and I didn't think much of the movie, but these shorts are sort of making me think about getting into World of Warcraft. I wonder what effect they're having on lapsed players and current fans?
