No Man's Sky: PlayStation Plus membership not a requirement for online play

The chances of you bumping into anyone are so slim, you don't need PS Plus.

If you've been wondering whether you'll need a PS Plus membership to play No Man's Sky online, wonder no more. You don't.

If you're a console gamer, you'll know that in order to play online with other human beings, you need to sign up for the monthly subscription service for your particular machine.

But Hello Games are so confident in the scale of their creation being so stupendous as to ensure you'll never run across another soul, that they're dropping the PS Plus requirement for online play in No Man's Sky.

In fact, the title is listed as single-player on both the PlayStation Store and Steam.

You can play the game offline, but the online portion comes into effect when making your discoveries.

"PS Plus won’t be a requirement to play online, however you will need to connected to the internet for your discoveries to register with the universal atlas," a Sony representative told Game Informer Australia editor David Milner, who then shared the news on Twitter to clear up the confusion on the PS Plus issue.

No Man's Sky launches on August 9 for PC and PS4.
