Nintendo rolls out Zelda: Breath of the Wild amiibos and Wolf Link partner

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of Nintendo's most anticipated games, so of course it will come with amiibo support. Three new amiibos will be featured alongside the game: Link firing a bow, Link on horseback, and a Guardian boss monster.

But that's not all Nintendo has lined up for Zelda's amiibo plans. If you happen to have the Twilight Princess amiibo handy, you can activate it in Breath of the Wild to introduce Wolf Link as an NPC partner. Wolf Link follows you as your explore Hyrule's vast landscape, fights enemies, and even helps Link track down food.

Wolf Link starts out with three hearts, and disappears once they've all been drained. Want Wolf Link to stick around longer? Well, if you have an advanced Twilight Princess HD save file synched up on the amiibo, Wolf Link will carry all the hearts currently unlocked in the past game.

It's currently not clear what Nintendo's new amiibos will bring to the Zelda title but they'll have to work pretty hard to top a canine buddy. Breath of the Wild launches for Wii U and Nintendo NX in 2017.
