Mirage: Arcane Warfare blends melee and magic to create a brutal and bloody medley that looks immensely satisfying.

The team seem pretty psyched to be able to shrug off the constraints of purely physical combat, and play around with the absurdity that the addition of magic allows.

Additionally, the gore in the game isn't just fun window dressing. "Your health is based on how bloody you get," said Darin Walsh, UI and VFX artist. "So if you see a guy that's just drenched in blood, you know he's been messed up in the battle."

As with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, the game is tough, and there's a learning curve, but the kills are designed to draw you back into the gameplay. "We use the gore a lot of the time to do that," explained studio president, Steve Piggot, "where if you get that one kill out of your ten lives, and that one kill is the most satisfying moment you've ever had, you know, that's what we're looking for."

The game is scheduled for release this year and you can sign up for the beta this summer over on the website, and listen to the characters' drawn out death screams while you're there is that sort of thing tickles your fancy.
