The Witcher 3 dev tools overhauled for Cyberpunk 2077

The Witcher 3 isn't yet finished, with news on the Blood and Wine expansion expected next month. But fans of CD Projekt RED and science fiction are already looking forward to the studio's next big thing: Cyberpunk 2077.

Anticipation has been building since the RPG was first announced in May 2012, and was given a huge boost by a very slick teaser trailer. But CD Projekt RED has never given any solid indication of when we might expect it to actually release - first it's off, then it's on.

We had some hopes we might see something before the end of the year, but it looks like we might be waiting a while, as CD Projekt RED has apparently decided to overhaul its development tools before it really kicks off.

“The most important thing that’s happening at the moment is that the programmers are taking the feedback we gave them from working on The Witcher 3," visual effects artist Jose Teixeira told iDigitalTimes as part of a longer interview on the transition between the two projects.

"As cliche as it sounds it was a big learning experience. The programmers are updating our software quite drastically.”

Don't be too dismayed; a lot of work is done before full production begins, and it's quite possible the project is well under way. Still, with all that lovely Witcher 3 money under its belt CD projekt RED cna hopefully take all the time it needs to deliver on its "better, bigger, more revolutionary" promises.
