The Division: new gear sets coming after update 1.1

The Division will be getting more gear sets in the future, following the release of the first four sets next week with the April 1.1 update.

Gear sets, once collected, will give unique talent and buffs to players who have built their character to take advantage of a particular class.

Next week's gear sets are aimed at marksman, assault or tank builds, as well as one specifically designed for solo Dark Zone players.

"We're going to keep adding them," confirmed lead game designer Mathias Karlson in the most recent Division podcast.

Players will need to equip four items of the gear set to receive the unique perk. Items can be found as drops, completing assignments, finishing the Falcon Lost mission and found on the map. Karlson also confirmed that some gear set items can be bought from vendors.

He went on to assure players that although gear sets are new powerful additions to the game, at no point are any of the updates designed to be overpowered for PvP or PvE play.

"We try as best as we can to make sure that all of the mechanics, all the stats, the skills, the gear talents, the future gear sets, that they work in both PvE and PvP. That there's no inherent built-in imbalance."

Elsewhere in the podcast, the Massive team also confirmed that it is working on a solution to compare weapons with and without attached mods.

"We know it's a pain to compare weapons with mods right now. We're going to fix it," said Karlson.

New high-end weapons

The Division's update 1.1 arrives April 12 and as well as gear sets introduces three new high-end weapons - the Valkyria submachine gun, Historian marksman rifle and Warlord assault rifle.

It also makes significant changes to the crafting system, will offer better Phoenix Credits rewards, the Falcon Lost mission and much more.
