The Witcher 3 studio has something "new" in the works for 2016

CD Projekt RED appears to have quite a bit on its plate, and one project is set to be released this year.

According to the firm's latest financial report (PDF), the company is working on a "new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio" - as you can see above.

The firm also has another triple-A project in the works set for release within the next five years with a 2017-2021 release window provided.

CDP hasn't provided an update on its release plans for Cyberpunk 2077 other than the 2017 window, so you can probably expect this other title to release sometime afterward.

It was previously said that The Witcher 3 was the last hurrah of sorts for Geralt, but CDP said it wasn't abandoning the franchise. This triple-A title could be a new entry in the series, or something else entirely. It's all speculation at this point.

As for the "new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio," the report doesn't elaborate further. It would be easy enough to assume it's a mobile offering. something episodic or a smaller more indie-style project.

With "format" being used instead of genre, it suggests a different route than a typical console or PC release. This, too is just guessing on our parts. We're just thinking out loud. The again, it could be a separate release for GWENT, as Larry Litmanen mentioned in the comments below. That one completely slipped our mind.

The next offering from the company is the Blood and Wine expansion for The Witcher 3, which is expected at some point during the first half of this year.
