Attack on Titan includes new story content from Hajime Isayama

Attack on Titan will welcome newcomers to Shingeki no Kojin, but reward fans with new content.

Omega Force's Attack on Titan game will include all-new story material written by creator Hajime Isayama and the franchise's supervising editor.

The news comes via Gematsu's translation of a Famitsu interview with producer Hisashi Koinuma and director Tomoyuki Kitamuta, which also reveals the new content will give us more background on certain characters.

Despite expanding the canon little, the game's story has been designed to give newcomers a grasp of the overall plot of the franchise. The story covers the first season of the anime, which is pretty faithful to the manga, and includes major events as well as character highlights.

There are ten playable characters (Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Krista, Sasha, Connie, Jean, Levi, Hange and Erwin) and the player character will change according to story needs. After completing the story mode once you'll be able to replay levels in free mode with whichever character you please.

There's also one other mode where players choose a character and tackle missions in order to earn XP and resources. Character progression is persistent across all modes.

I saw Attack on Titan at TGS 2015 and had a chat with Koinumi about it. It looked pretty different from Warriors games, but some of the details from this latest interview ring a few bells - the ordering of troops, secret missions and mid-level events sound very much like recent Musou franchise offerings. Go have a browse if you're keen on this one, which hits PlayStation 3, PS4 and Vita in the west sometime this year.
