Weekend Playlist: what are you playing?

Which Black Friday and holiday sale purchases actually made it into your schedule this weekend - and which will you remember only as credit card regret?

It's that time of the week again: we stop writing about video games for two whole days in order to play video games and recover from our general misanthropy.

It's also another special time: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It is so easy to pick up cheap games at this time of year that there is no excuse for not trying something new. Which makes it especially embarrassing that of the four of us who reported in this week, three were playing the same things as last week. Let's hope y'all packed in more variety than Team VG247:

  • Bloodborne: The Old Hunters

Sherif's been playing the new Bloodborne DLC and has hit a bit of a wall. "I've yet to beat the first Old Hunters boss. It's the first time I've been this frustrated with a Souls game, and I've played them all," he said. "Part of that is mainly because I am on NG+ and turns out I am a wee bit underleveled, so I will spending some time powering through old content so I can be equipped to deal with this f**ker. I am coming for you Ludwig!"

  • Star Wars Battlefront

Both Matt and Sherif played a bit of Battlefront. Contrary to popular opinion, Sherif says the shooter is still fun even after seeing all the content, and ranked up a few times. Matt says it's "really simple, instant and easy to play", which he finds to be a nice change from Fallout 4. This is probably a dig at the menus again, I suspect.

  • Fallout 4

Speaking of Fallout 4, I put the disc in "just for a minute" and ended up playing nearly all weekend. I finally banged Cait, which involved taking a lot of drugs, demanding money and carefully avoiding doing anything nice for anyone. Also, I briefly started a new save intending to try something new but just started making another overpowered Infiltrator, so I went back to my (third) main.

  • Destiny

Pat's been knocking his head against Hard Mode Oryx. I think his raid group has destabilised a bit which is making things tough. I played a bit on Friday night and was kind of astonished at how much there is still to do; the exact opposite problem of Year One Destiny. Collect all the things, upgrade all the things, go do all the other things to get the stuff you need to upgrade the things... It never seems to end. Nice.

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

If you want to play video games online with your pals, the latest Call of Duty is always a good place to start; it's kind of the default multiplayer event of the year, isn't it? Matt, who now lives in rural Wales, played for two hours with a buddy who lives 200 miles away and whom Matt hasn't seen for six months. The magical power of video games.

  • Hard West

Pat is still playing Hard West. He did not provide an update beyond saying he's enjoying it. We'll extract an editorial from him somehow; perhaps by getting him banned from Destiny.

Now, cats: what have you been up to? We had a great collection last week and I expect even better from you now that your libraries are bursting with bargain purchases. Fire away!
