Final Fantasy 14 players in Europe should find their experience has become smoother thanks to the opening of a new data centre.

The European data centre for Final Fantasy 14 was announced at last year's fan festival, but opened for business overnight.

In a video update posted on Facebook, producer Naoki Yoshida said the regional data centre should bring a "faster and more comfortable FF14 game play experience" for those logging in from Europe.

All character data has been automatically transferred over by square Enix, so there's no need to do anything but sit back and enjoy less lag - hopefully.

Yoshida also took the time to remind fans that the 3.X patch series kicks off in November. Update 3.1 will deliver an additional story sequence, new "battle contents", a 24-player raid sequence and the Lord of Verminion feature, which allows players to command minions in battle.
