Weekend Playlist: what are you playing?

Games, games, games! We're playing them, you're playing them, they're the best. Let's check in and see what everyone's been up to.

The holidays are still months away but you can feel excitement building, can't you? Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain drops in just over two weeks and kicks off the silly season, after which we'll probably greatly regret the need to sleep, eat and earn a living.

There's still time before the Great Inundation to revisit out old favourites, try new things, and indulge in your multiplayer habits. Here's what Team VG247 has been up to this weekend.

  • Journey

Somehow, Pat had never before tried one of the PlayStation 3's brightest treasures, now gloriously updated for PS4. He played it through this weekend with his kids - it's family friendly, has no combat and can be completed in a single session - and said "the world needs more games like Journey". It sure does.

  • Hatoful Boyfriend

Pigeon dating sim visual novel Hatoful Boyfriend was less than $3 in the Devolver Digital Steam sale and both Steph and I picked it up. Steph had only played a little when she reported in this weekend, but I myself sat down and devoured it, unlocking all endings in an afternoon filled with flirting and drama - wow, is it worth unlocking the alternate path play throughs. You know, after a few minutes I completely forgot they were all birds?

  • Galak-Z: The Dimensional

Sherif was back at it with Galak-Z this weekend, but it sounds like the passion is soon to die; he was very close to finishing the second season but now has to restart. "The permanence in this game is maybe too much for me. I think It'll be a while before I go back," he said. We'll see! Rogue-likes have a way of luring you back in.

  • Cosmic DJ

Another Devolver Sale pick-up, this little sequencer is great fun. You can "win" every level just by plonking down random sounds, but if you want to fiddle with it you can make some pretty fun music. You can then export these as MP3 files and spam your friends with them. Plus there's a pretty amusing storyline drawing you from track to track. I had a great time with this, stone cold sober; one can only imagine the possibilities during more relaxed scenarios.

  • Destiny

To absolutely nobody's surprise Pat and I both played Destiny this weekend. Neither of us had Gjallarhorns and were therefore very, very pleased to see Xur. Pat actually spent a fair amount of time helping an under-levelled Guardian gather enough Strange Coins to grab the holy of holies. I spent mine blowing s**t up and deriding this new "easy mode". Bring on the nerf! I also took a raid virgin through Crota's End, and that was fun.

  • Fallout 3

Steph reinstalled Fallout 3, presumably because the excitement of Fallout 4 has gotten to her. She's a massive fan so we fully expect her to get no sleep for a few weeks.

  • Act of Aggression

Sherif's been playing Act of Agression, an in-beta RTS from the team behind R.U.S.E. and the Wargames series. He says it reminds him of old school Command & Conquer games, which is pretty interesting, and will have more to say about it soon. Watch for a feature this week, with any luck.

  • Volume

I've also been playing Mike Bithell's latest but coverage is embargoed so, you know: look forward to some impressions later in the week.

And now, as usual, over to you. What's on your radar? Have any of you jumped back into World of Warcraft to prepare for Legion? Are you wrapping up last year's Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty or FIFA ahead of the annual update? Pick up anything good in weekend sales? Let us know.
