PlayStation Now goes into open beta in the UK
PlayStation Now, Sony’s streaming games service for PS4, has moved into open beta in the UK.
The service uses cloud-based technology to stream PlayStation 3 games over the internet and onto the user's PS4.
Those who wish to try the service out will need a Sony Entertainment Network account, a Dualshock 4 or Dualshock 3 wireless controller, a PS4 or selected compatible Sony device such a Blu-ray player or Bravia TV and a broadband internet connection with a minimum 5mbps.
Here's a list of the Sony Bravia TV models which can be used for the PS Now open beta along with when the service will be made available for each:
- Day 1 – 2015 Series: X94C, X93C, X90C, S85C, S80C, X85C, X83C, W85C, W80C, W75C, W70C Series
- Later date – 2014 Series: X95B, X90B, S90B, X85B, W95B, W85B, W80B, W70B, W60B, W58B Series
- Sony Blu-ray Players
- Day 1 – 2015 Series: BDP-S6500, BDP-S5500, BDP-S4500, BDP-S3500, BDP-S1500
Games will initially be offered for rental only during the beta, with a subscription service following later this summer. A wide selection of games will be made available, and initially the rental will last two-30 days. Prices range from £2.99 to £7.99.
These titles include but aren't limited to: Bioshock Infinite, Final Fantasy 13, Tomb Raider Underworld, Ultra Street Fighter 4, Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge.
Sony is looking into bringing the service to PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV later this year.
PlayStation Now went into private beta in the UK last month and into open beta in North America last July.
