The Witcher 3: Destination: Skellige

Destination: Skellige has tough entry requirements, but it's worth the trip for The Witcher 3 players who can afford - and survive - passage to the islands.

The Witcher 3: Destination: Skellige

This is by far the most difficult of the three destination missions available to you so be ready: you’ll need to be able to battle a knot of level 16 bandit-type enemies right off the bat, so if that is a concern, put in some time doing sidequests in Velen and Novigrad first.

We begin in Novigrad, at the docks. Head to the southern most of the three indicated ships. Speak to Captain Liglad, who’ll direct you to Captain Wolverstone, who’s at the pub. He’s the only one who will take you.

Find the captain of the Atropos at the Golden Sturgeon, the nearby inn, and cough up 1000 crowns to secure passage. Don’t worry; you only need to do this once – and you get it back shortly.

Unfortunately the journey doesn’t go smoothly; looks like those doubting captains weren’t so stupid after all. Battle the pirates; the sailors are a big help here, so feel free to keep your distance and use signs to help you out.

When you wake up, chat with your new friend. Be polite, and you won’t have to fight him, so he’ll pop up later in the game.

When your chat ends, go loot the shipwrecks. Beware the Siren nest on the deck of the ship near the Place of Power (use a crossbow to bring Sirens down for easy kills), and go all the way around behind the southernmost wreck to find Wolverton’s body and recover your funds.

Based Roach apparently swum ashore, so take the nearby road, keeping east, until you reach the crossroads marker. Take the road north, sticking to the north path when it forks, and pausing to check in with the merchant. He’ll sell you a bunch of guidebooks unlocking fast travel points around Skellige. It’s expensive, but worth it unless you’re a "no fast travel" player.

If you bought the guides you can now follow your HorsePS. Otherwise, keep heading north, passing the first fork to the east very close by the merchant, then taking the west fork. Turn east when the path switchbacks, ignoring the west route, to reach the Kaer Trolde signpost.

Head along the docks, stopping at the quest marker to loan the merchant 150 crowns if you like. When you reach the far end, watch the funeral and chat with Yennefer (flirt, obviously, if you plan to secure her as your main bae over Triss Merigold). You can choose to give Yennefer all the information you’ve gathered in Velen and Novigrad, which is useful if you’ve gotten a bit befuddled by the plot so far.

Now we’re off to The King is Dead – Long Live the King.
