A press release on the cancellation was released yesterday by Marvelous, and according to the translation from Siliconera, the publisher stated it had lost lost ¥461 million ($3.8 million) on the game.

Kaio was based on the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, only with pirate and animal themes in order to appeal western gamers as the work is obscure internationally.

The game was announced in 2011 as a 3DS title with a 2012 release date before a delay was announced. In December of 2013, it was announced it had been pushed into 2014.
