Nosgoth update adds Vanguard, many fixes

Nosgoth, the free-to-play multiplayer brawler set in the Legacy of Kain universe, has been given a significant makeover.

nosgoth beta 4

The major feature of the latest Nosogth game update is a new playable human character called the Vanguard.

"Equipped with mighty throwing axes and a shield, the Vanguard can take more punishment than any human class that has come before, but his long range damage potential is limited," Square Enix said.

"His abilities focus on using his shield to disrupt or disable enemies and secondary support powers to enhance or protect teammates."

Vanguard players can hold down the right mouse button to activate shield block stance, reducing damage from frontal attacks by 90% and negating effects like stagger. It only lasts a short time, and letting a final blow break through will leave you vulnerable.

The patch also introduces a new matchmaking queue prioritising players who have been waiting for a long time to find a game. It works by grouping together players of similar skill levels and dropping them into matches they may be under or over-powered for - but spread out over opposite sides, so things don't get too unbalanced.

There have been several other changes to matchmaking, as well as interface, balance - especially to vampires - and various bug fixes.
