Long lost Sonic X-treme demo now playable

Sonic fans have resurrected Sonic X-treme, one of the blue hedgehog's most regrettably lost adventures.

Sonic X-treme was originally planned as the Sega mascot's first 3D outing.

The tale of its troubled development and eventual cancellation is a sad one, but probably pretty typical of the mess that was Sega in its drawn-out death throes.

We did see some of it before it folded completely, and SonicRetro members have managed to track down, piece together and port what did survive the shelving. You can download and play it for yourself.

It's amazing how much passion and energy Sonic fans have after all that Sega's inflicted on them over the years.
