Destiny getting matchmaking for Weekly Heroics

Destiny 1.1.1 will introduce a much requested feature: matchmaking for the Weekly Heroic Strike.

Bungie is "taking final steps" to bring Destiny patch 1.1.1 to fruition, according to the latest Bungie Weekly Update. It's still expected before the end of February.

In addition to previously announced features, the patch will introduce matchmaking for the Weekly Heroic Strike, allowing you to get a fireteam together even if your buddies are busy.

"We wanted the Weekly Heroics to be a challenge that pushed you and your buddies, but what we observed was that these strikes don’t demand the same cooperation of a cohesive pre-made group," design lead M.E. Chung said.

"The overwhelming community response was such that many players didn’t have the numbers on their friends list to experience the activity on a weekly basis."

You will no longer be able to solo the Weekly Heroic, unfortunately - but the Nightfall will still require pre-formed fireteams. This is because each party wipe during Nightfall sends you to orbit, where you'd have to match make again - so team up properly for each attempt.

No promises on matchmaking for Raids, but Bungie said it's thinking hard about how to make finding Raid and Nightfall groups easier.

Here are a few other chnages coming in the patch:

  • Xûr will stop forgetting to bring his Exotic engrams when he visits us from… wherever Xûr is from.
  • Iron Banner will work as previously promised, with a greater variety of maps in rotation as well as a couple of new Bounties that give you more control over which weapon you can use to complete them – and we were hoping that one would have arrived before the current event.
  • Strikes and Crucible Maps will be less likely to repeat themselves when you stay in a matchmaking playlist with your Fireteam.
  • Grimoire Cards will drop when you expect them to.

These newly announced features are in addition to the heavy ammo bug fix, weapons rebalancing, and new reputation view UI - as well as some details which won't be announced till the patch goes live.
