Apple has announced its financial results for the quarter ending December 27 2014, exceeding expectations with a 29.5% increase in revenues to $74.6 billion. This was a new record for the company.

One of the key factors in this spike is another new record, this time for for quarterly iPhone sales, with the iPhone 6 driving units sold to 74.5 million.

Sales of iPhone devices were especially strong in China, where revenues increased by 70%. Meanwhile, iPad sales for 2014 were down 18% on 2013. Maybe as the iPhone gets bigger tablets seem less necessary?

It's interesting to hear the iPhone is doing so well as EA notes strong mobile results in its own financial report.
