How to make money in Assassin's Creed: Unity

In Assassin's Creed: Unity, you need money to level up. Your level - represented by a scale of five diamonds - is gear dependent, and the best weapons and armour do not come cheap.

You want the best stuff, too. A really good sword or axe can make all the difference in fights, and good armour can be a game changer for stealth infiltrations. Not to mention some of the gear you earn through doing missions has good stats but looks ridiculous. So how do you make money?

Wait for Sequence 3

Once Arno becomes a full-fledged Assassin, visit the building above Assassin HQ and speak to the NPC there to open the Cafe Theatre. This will be your main source of serious income later on. Every 20 minutes, an amount of cash will be deposited in the chest in the office, and the chest can hold a couple of drops before you need to collect the cash. How much cash you get with each deposit depends on a couple of things, many of which require a cash investment.

Raise some initial capital

In order to increase your income from the Cafe Theatre, you're going to need to spend a bit of money. Check to see how much your next Social Club purchase or Renovation costs, then go after the loot. There are a couple of ways to fill your pockets enough to make the necessary purchases. Story and side missions normally pay out a fair whack of cash, but if you're here reading this guide it's probably because you want the money now, not after the story has ended, or you're stuck in a tricky mission and need the cash to level up. So earn some pocket money:

  • Complete crowd events whenever you can. Every time you finish a set of these (five, ten, 15, 20 and so on) you get a fat cash bonus, and in the early hours of the game this is a huge help. Many crowd events, like tackling a thief or killing a criminal, can be completed very quickly, so never ignore one.
  • Open chests in high difficulty districts. The chests in Versailles and the district you start off in offer very little money for your effort. Visit a more difficult region (check the map to see the diamond rating) and open any normal chests you can find. Many contain thousands of coins.
  • Play Rift missions if available. You get a cash bonus depending on how much data you've collected.

Invest in the Cafe Theatre
Return to the Cafe Theatre every time you can afford a renovation and complete it immediately; don't wait and save up for them all, because every renovation increases your earnings, and the time you spend running around after the whole wad of cash could be bringing in a lot more money and speeding up the whole process.

Buy the Social Clubs
Similarly, buy Social Clubs ASAP; you can intersperse renovations with the purchase of Social Clubs depending on which is cheaper. The cheapest Social Club, in the first district you visit, costs just ₣500, while the most expensive one is ₣10,000. Buy whatever you can, Social Club or renovation, as soon as you can. Both investments increase your potential income.

Do the Cafe Theatre missions
Inside the Cafe Theatre there's a unique mission icon. Complete all of these to increase your income. You also get paid for doing these missions, and your chest fills up while you're away. By the time you get back you may have earned enough for your next goal. Some of the missions are quite high difficulty, but that difficulty just means the guards are stronger; if you use stealth judiciously, you need never encounter them at all, except on your rather pointed terms.

Sit back and wait
Once you have finished purchasing all the Social Clubs and Renovations and completed all the related missions, money starts to come in rapidly. Your income can still be increased by collecting mementoes, which are earned by completing story missions, but you should now have enough money coming in on the regular to pick up and then upgrade some pretty high level gear. If you need some cash quick, pause your game and go away for an hour; your chest should be full or almost full when you get back. Just don't forget to save and then reset the app and maybe even your console after collecting, to clear your caches and avoid potential bugs.

Get on with the game
If you've done everything on this list and you still can't afford the top gear - yeah, we feel you. The most expensive stuff takes ages to save up for. That said, a full set is super over-powered for the storyline missions, so now that you have decent enough gear, why not go out and have a good time with the game, collecting your income regularly, until you have the necessary capital?
