Close your eyes and imagine, if you will, the entirety of Great Britain in Minecraft. Now, open your lovely windows back up and head below, because it is not imaginary at all, but an actual thing.
Created by the British Geological Survey, the map of GB in Minecraft form includes England, Scotland, Wales and some of the islands around the mainland.
According to Eurogamer, the map was inspired by Ordnance Survey’s 2013 effort, and uses data culled from it.
“The Minecraft blocks were produced using data from the BGS’s soil parent material map,” said the BGS “In the UK, parent materials provide the basic foundations and building blocks of the soil, influencing their texture, structure, drainage and chemistry.
“By using the parent material data BGS holds it’s possible to get a general understanding of the types of geology found across Great Britain which is then translated into Minecraft blocks.”
You can have a look at EG’s Let’s Play video of it below. The map can be downloaded for free here as long as you have a copy of Minecraft on your PC. And 6GB of free space.
