Xbox One should get BBC iPlayer by the end of the year

After a long wait, it looks like Xbox One owners will have access to the BBC iPlayer app just in time to watch all the terrible Christmas telly.

"I am happy to announce that we’re aiming to launch new BBC iPlayer on Xbox One by the end of this year," says a post on the official BBC Blog from executive product manager Marcus Parnwell.

This is the first time a release window has been offered for the iPlayer coming to Xbox One, despite it long being common knowledge that the app was on its way. BBC iPlayer has been available on Sony's PS4 since the console launched in November last year.

Entertainment apps on Xbox One no longer require a Gold subscription to access, so iPlayer will be immediately available to all owners of the console.
