The troubled history of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a very, very different game from the one that was first announced. Catch up on the journey in this fascinating video exposé.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance began life as Metal Gear Solid: Rising, and the title change is the least of the changes that Konami made to the project.

The video below tracks these changes, and is the first in a new series from HyperBitHero called Lost in Concept, which tracks the journeys of games that changed markedly through the development process. The information presented here is all publicly known, but it's amazing how short our memories can be, and having it collated so accessibly is cool.

These sorts of stories are more common than you think, but they usually happen far less publicly. Metal Gear Solid: Rising is an interesting example because it made a startling metamorphosis after being announced. Konami was really gutsy to cop to the change of direction and be so open and honest about the changes well in advance of release. Kudos.
