We need to talk: we've switched to Disqus

Enough's enough, we think you'll probably all agree.

disqus

We've switched VG247 commenting over to Disqus. We previously used a Wordpress discussion system.

Why are we changing? Primarily, the general user experience of the old system was sub-par. It took forever to post anything and the whole set-up was virtually featureless. Worse, it forced you to create a VG247 account to get involved in any discussion.

You won't be able to add more comments to anything published before 10am this morning UK time.

Disqus has a heavy feature-set, and it allows you to log-in with social media accounts. It supports media embedding (both image and video), up- and down-voting, reply notifications, in-line editing and more. We get asked for features of this type regularly, and building it ourselves would be costly and time-consuming. There really is no point.

We're keeping the VG247 user accounts, and people can still create them, but for the time being they won't actually do anything. None of the old comments are being deleted. We're getting rid of the forum, as hardly anyone uses it.

We hope you take to the new system. If you have any questions at all, ask us below.

Founder & Publisher (Former)

Patrick Garratt is a games media legend - and not just by reputation. He was named as such in the UK's 'Games Media Awards', the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award. After garnering experience on countless gaming magazines, he joined Eurogamer and later split from that brand to create VG247, putting the site on the map with fast, 24-hour a day coverage, and assembling the site's earliest editorial teams. He retired from VG247, and the games industry, in 2017.
