So now Game Journalism Simulator is going to be a thing, too

Where will the madness end?

The latest product of the simulator craze sweeping Steam Greenlight and the Internet in general is Game Journalism Simulator.

The project is the brainchild of Jason Evangelho, a tech and games contributor at Forbes, and is being developed in collaboration with other games journalists including Game Informer’s Daniel Tack.

Speaking to Siliconera, Evangelho said he was inspired by games like Rock Simulator and Grass Simulator as well as the recent trend for games writers to livestream their working process (no, I won’t, by the way; I’m not showing you what’s in all those other tabs).

However, it sounds like the primary motivation for the gentle jibe at games media was former journalist turned Activision leader Dan Amrich’s book Critical Path: How to Review Video Games for a Living.

“[Amrich] suggests that game critics should at least dabble with game development. The argument is that they’ll gain a deeper understanding of the process and be better equipped to judge a video game’s many elements,” Evangelho said.

“It struck a nerve when I originally read it, and it struck that same nerve last week.”

And now this is happening to us and nobody even knows how to feel any more. Is this irony? Post-irony? Post-post irony? Have we come out the other side and back into authenticity yet?

If you’d like to know more, Evangelho has opened a development blog discussing his intentions and motivations in more detail. There’s a Facebook page, too.

Thanks, GamePolitics.

How many more of these fucking simulators do we need!? And also, how many more ridiculous projects need to be Greenlight before Valve finally starts issuing some quality control? Because some people are just releasing buggy, unfinished messes of “games” under the banners of Greenlight and Early Access.

But this game will be way too easy, all you have to do is complain about any game that doesn’t have a female protagonist, then also make sure to complain that any female protagonist is not the right kind of female protagonist.

@Not The Eyes I imagine it’d actually be pretty difficult. You have to remain professional while people that hate things you’ve said in some of your articles go out of their way to badmouth you in the comment sections of any articles you write. I think many people that comment on this site would fail right there.

@salarta nah, I don’t think being held responsible for your actions is asking that much really.

@Not The Eyes, Be held responsible, says the anonymous internet user, hiding behind made up usernamer.

The way you little peeps can make these comments demonstrates a lack of irony coupled with crippling entitlement.

Please reply with your real name oh responsible one!

    Fuckin twerp.

@OrbitMonkey What’s it got to with me? But Alex Stevenson if you must know. I’m not the ‘game journalist’. The point still stands, I don’t think being held responsible for one’s actions is that much to ask, especially when I’m just poking fun along with an article about a game that is clearly doing the same.

@Not The Eyes, No. You srs gamers who have you adult discussions about games, do not understand “fun”.

@OrbitMonkey What are you even talking about? Are we not allowed to have adult discussions about things? Please give up. I’m not even sure you know what you’re talking about.
