OtherSide Entertainment, a new company founded by Paul Neurath, has announced the development of Underworld Ascension.

Neurath has lead or had a hand in the development of Thief, System Shock 2, Ultima Underworld, Descent, Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide and Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri among others.

Underworld Ascension is a spiritual successor to Ultima Underworld, and more details are expected in the months to come.

The only release format known at present is PC.

I think it’s time to retire the phrase “Spiritual successor”

It means too many things to too many people.. just like ‘RPG’, it’s become too broad a term and is open to interpretation, and a definition that is so ambiguous is no definition at all.

@Tormenter No it isn’t. When someone uses that it means they are attempting to offer similar experience. Like what obsidian is doing with Pillars of Eternity. It’s an spiritual successor to infinity engine games.

But will it be a cross between Ultima Underworld and Ultima Ascension?
