I know you’ve filled every Pokédex in every Pokémon game to date. I know you’ve battled all your friends to a standstill. I know you’ve collected a stable of shinies. But you’re still not as hardcore about Pokémon as these Japanese schoolkids.
The King of Dragons Tournament is an official Pokémon card and video game competition for schoolchildren, organised by the Pokémon Company.
Siliconera reports the tournament began with events in January, whittling down to a final 32 champions who faced off at a final on March 22.
The video below tracks the competition through highlights from start to finish. It’s in Japanese, but still worth watching – just look at those little Pokémasters go!
They’re only little kids, but those tears when they lose a match aren’t just tantrums; Pokémon makes for a great competitive eSport, and these kids are doing what many of us wouldn’t have the guts (or the skills) to do in entering a prestigious nation-wide tournament.
