Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure is now available for Mac and PC.

You can pick up the FMV-laden adventure for $20 on Amazon, GOG, the Humble Store, the Mac App Store or Steam.

If you’re unfamiliar with Tex Murphy, he’s the last private detective living in a post-World War III San Francisco. The series is notorious for its FMV cut-scenes.

This entry, which was crowdfunded and then picked up by Atlus, has five different endings and is the first since 1998′s Tex Murphy: Overseer.

This is actually getting great scores across the board. I knew I’d like this, but I always assumed this would go over the heads of the majority who fail to understand cheesy humour. Either that, or there are a lot more IN** types doing reviews than I’d initially anticipated.

Well, I’m glad it’s getting good reviews, because it’s a damned great game. Every Tex Murphy game is, they’re larger than life and completely ridiculous. If you can set aside your Seriousness Equipment aside for long enough to appreciate something like this, then you’ll find a new bunch of characters who’re entirely far too memorable. I know I’ve latched onto them and I’ve missed them in the space between then and now.

It’s good to see them back.

    Welcome back, Murphy.
