The Elder Scrolls Online has been delayed on PS4 and Xbox One, Bethesda has confirmed.

An FAQ read posted and then delated earlier this morning read:”The Elder Scrolls Online officially launched on April 4, 2014 on PC and Mac. While it has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn’t going to be possible, we have made great progress, we have concluded that we’ll need about six more months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve. For additional information on the delay, please see this blog post.”

The link at the end and the text have since been removed, and this Reddit thread dedicated to the matter suggests that Bethesda is deleting the posts and banning the accounts of users spreading the text in what appears to be a wave of damage limitation.

Bethesda has since confirmed the delay, and sent VG247 the following statement:

“We’ve been grateful to our fans for the wonderful response to our recent launch of The Elder Scrolls Online for PC/Mac, but we know many of you are eagerly waiting to play the game on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, reads the statement.

For $20, eligible PC/Mac can add a full, digital version of ESO on either PS4 or Xbox One, and transfer their characters over. They will also be handed another 30 days of included game time.

“We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to those platforms. Integrating our systems with each console manufacturer’s networks — which are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each other—has been a challenging process.

“It has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn’t going to be possible. Though we have made great progress, we have concluded that we’ll need about six months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve.”

Bethesda has said it plans to make the delay “up to our fans,” through specific agreement with Sony and Microsoft.

Anyone who purchases and plays the PC/Mac version of The Elder Scrolls Online by the end of June will have the opportunity to transfer their characters to either console version when they are released.

The offer will allow you to begin playing immediately on the PC/Mac, and then add the PS4 or Xbox One version and transfer the characters you have created and developed. And, you don’t have to pay full price for the game twice.

For $20, eligible PC and Mac players will have the option to add a full, digital version of ESO on either the PS4 or the Xbox One with the character transfers, and another 30 days of included game time.

“Whether you decide to take advantage of this offer or not, we promise to do everything we can to get the game released on both consoles as quickly as we can. We will keep everyone updated with additional details regarding character transfers, specific offer dates, when you can expect console beta to start, and of course, when ESO on consoles will launch,” said the publisher.

They should have postponed the pc version too. They maybe will get money earlier but the bad reputation will hunt them on the long run.

@Xbone its not their fault that “next gen ” sistems couldnt handle 1080p 60 fps..they said will aim for that but they probably cant do it so they will delay for further downgrades lol

@undermyrules if you think the delay has anything at all to do with 1080p/60fps you clearly haven’t seen the graphics of elder scrolls online, high quality it is not.

With the amount of bugs and problems with the PC version they should have delayed the game all together. In six months there will be so many great games out that ESO will probably just launch silent and be forgotten…

@Judicas One of the best looking MMORPG games out there…what are you talking about? You aren’t comparing it to a singleplayer RPG are you?

@_LarZen_ Sorry but ESO could give Gears of War a run for its money in the bland looking game department.

@_LarZen_ You might need to remove your blinders, it’s about as bland as bland gets.

You need to buy a better GPU. What are you using? A integrated Intel chip?

@_LarZen_ No it isn’t, are you blind or is your primary gaming platform a PS2?

Kudos for delaying a game that needed work however…

They had a small window in which I would have plunked down $100 to play this over the summer. Come December or January I will have true next gen games to play. SOE may have even ported over a couple of games, Landmark will be in open beta, Destiny will even be out and my friend who don’t normally play MMOs will choose that over ESO. Unless this has a FFXIV reroll up its sleeve i just don’t see this game working out.

In what world does this not look good? http://i.imgur.com/zYubzVV.png

That’s a screenshot I took, and the game wasn’t even in the max specs. MMO wise, it’s best looking one I’ve ever played. Point me toward another if you think it’s more beautiful than this please.

Still doesnt really answer my big question on console versions. Do I pay an extra $15 a month if I want to play the Console and the PC version? I do think it’s great that they are giving us the $20 discount, but it doesnt mean that much to me if I have to pay $15 x2 to play both versions!

For those who are talking about the game not being good looking, you are absolutely nuts. For an MMO, this is one of the best looking games out there. No it cant compare to a dedicated offline RPG, but it’s easily the best looking MMO out there right now. The lighting is gorgeous and so pretty at 1440p and everything maxed.

ESO is NOT a bad looking MMO at all. I don’t see why anyone would play MMO’s on consoles though, you’d run around with lifeless people because noone can be bothered dragging a keyboard into their couch. Defiance on consoles failed horribly community wise, and i learned my lesson there.

Plays great on a mid end PC aswell, plus PC games are generally cheaper.

    TLDR: Buy the PC version.

Oh, and the most important thing:

PC has addons. That alone should sell that version.

Also, fuck the lack of edit buttons.

ESO is one, if not the best looking MMO out now. People here need to lay off the crack.

ESO definitely isn’t one of the better looking MMOs out there, that’s for sure, there are numerous others that would take that title. Even some Korean titles could try to take that with their excessive beauty, despite being disappointingly soulless grindfests.

What many are forgetting though is that an MMO needs to render much more on screen than your average console game. Not to mention that console games can more efficiently make use of pop-in. So basically there are lots and lots and lots of moving objects on screen, sometimes there can be hundreds, even thousands, and it can bring even a mid-range computer to a crawl with highest settings.

I can’t imagine what that would do to consoles… and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the very issue they’re struggling with, just trying to make sure that the console won’t overheat, lock up, and die with more than X people in an area.

To those saying ESO isn’t (at least one of) the best looking MMOs out there, I challenge you to name another MMO that looks nearly as good, especially with SweetFX enabled. That said I don’t think the game has great graphics by any means, nothing compared to a modded Skyrim with ENB, but seriously, I haven’t seen another MMO that comes close in comparison.

I’ll just leave this here. http://imgur.com/a/p0ZDM — if you say this isn’t one of the best if not the best looking MMO, you’re a troll.
