The Last of Us lead character artist Michael Knowland leaves Naughty Dog

Monday, 28th April 2014 12:02 GMT By Dave Cook

The Last of Us lead character artist Michael Knowland is the latest in a growing line of Naughty Dog team members to leave the studio.

the last of us remastered

Knowland updated his LinkedIn profile to mark the end of his time at Naughty Dog, as spotted by Superannuation. It’s worth noting that he was working on The Last of Us and not Uncharted 4.

There have been a few high-profile departures at Naughty Dog and Sony’s wider family of studios. Back in March, award-winning Uncharted scribe Amy Hennig left the company after ten years, followed by a statement from the team.

Then, Uncharted 3 game director Justin Richmond left for Riot Games, God of War 3′s director left Sony Santa Monica, as did Seth Killian, among others.

We’ll have more on where Knowland ends up if we hear more.

Sony is not paying enough then. This is a high class-AAA devs that we are talking about.

@Erthazus Or call me crazy that he and other members decided to leave ND for other opportunities, standard affair. However this is becoming more coincidental with ND.

People are leaving, one after the other

Topic: PS4 is doomed, ND is doomed, Uncharted PS4 is doomed and PS Vita is doo…. Wait never mind.

I’m always perplexed by why people changing jobs becomes breaking news which joe public then freaks out about about and starts preparing for the apocalypse. Sure, the resent matter at Bungie was a bit of a mystery, but that’s hardly a normal case, and even then, internal restructures and the politics that shadow them really have nothing at all to do with the public.

People change jobs. It happens. It happens all the time. Chances are this chap was just seeking other opportunities elsewhere, for any number of perfectly valid personal reasons.

I try not to speculate. But so many high profile departures grouped so close together makes it rather hard not to.

And the fact that they recast the only confirmed actor for Uncharted 4. Big shakeup happening maybe?.. I don’t know.

@Beta Replying cause no edit button..

I can only assume that it’s either talent poaching, people reconsidering their jobs at the start of a new gen, or that they’re having a big shakeup at the studio.

People do change jobs, it’s true. It’s not a conspiracy, though you can’t expect a conspiracy theorist to read the lines when they’re so busy reading between them.

Given the status of Naughty Dog right now, for the career-minded, it’s a good time to spread wings. The prestige of the company is only going to serve you well and make you a tempting catch for wherever you set your sights.

That’s not the most sensationalist way of looking at it. For that approach, try the first comment. After all, he’s such an immaculately informed, rational and insightful person who is never ever wrong with his premature remarks.

Look , I’m not sure what is happening around NT these days but i’m 100% sure that M$ is behind this conspiracy over NT Studio , some of you may find this funny and stupid .. but the recent dirty practices from M$ shows me the truth with open eyes .. NT is being targeted by a money hungry pigs who’s thirsty to ruin a potential studio over Sony side , the days will prove what i’m saying .

I view it as if a band I enjoy listening to is slowly breaking up, replacing members as they leave, and every time someone does leave, the sound of the music changes that much more.
