Perfect World buys $100 million stake in competitor Shanda

Neverwinter publisher Perfect World has agreed to purchase a $100 million stake in Aion and MapleStory publisher Shanda.

GamesIndustry reports Perfect World will pick up over 30 million shares in its fellow Chinese free-to-play publisher.

Perfect World has also joined a consortium aiming to acquire Shanda and transform it into a private company. Shanda has not yet made a decision on the consortium's proposal.

As well as its eponymous MMORPG and several other titles most popular in China and East Asia, Perfect World partnered with Valve for the mainland Chinese launch of Dota 2.
