Oculus Rift dev kit sales pass 85,000

Combined sales of both versions of the Oculus Rift dev kit have topped 85,000, which is pretty impressive for a piece of kit intended only for developers, not general release.

The sales figures comes via TechCrunch, reporting version 2 of the dev kit has already shifted about 25,000 units.

The hardware revision went up for pre-order on March 19, so this sales figure was achieved in under one month. The DK2 won't actually ship till July.

The original version of the headset sold about 60,000 units.

Oculus Rift is working towards completing a consumer version of the headset. A massive cash injection from its acquisition by Facebook ought to help there.

Thanks, CVG.
